Once upon a time,… back in the day of Vintage Computing and what-not, Google wasn’t the monolithic world dominating force it has now become. In fact there were several search engines and online directories. When you did a search it returned thousands of results and you could choose how many you looked at. You could use boolean operators to take control of the search results. Let’s just say the algorithm was much less obvious.

These days, I’m frustrated to receive maybe 10 – 12 search results based on what Google and the advertisers think I should be seeing. Now, more than ever, we need to take back some of the control over how we navigate the World Wide Web.

To that end, I’m working on my own directory of useful and meaningful bookmarks. Those that I have discovered and would like to return to again. I hope these resources will help you to find the information that Google decided was irrelevant.
